Having a rich vocabulary is a great personality and professional trait. Knowing a lot of phrases, terms and words gives you freedom of communication and brings you to the next level. You sound professional to your managers and colleagues when you can operate aт expansive vocabulary. On top of that, it is just pleasant to speak with a person who has no linguistic boundaries and therefore becomes very interesting for the interlocutor.

Work with content you read and watch

For sure, you know that to increase your vocabulary you need to read a lot, watch some educational videos or listen to audiobooks. Any consumption of information brings you a lot of useful phrases, new words, and terms. But first of all select the content you listen to or watch mindfully. Do not opt for any low-quality information that might be entertaining but will hardly teach you something new. Secondly, you need really work with the information you consume. That implies writing out or underlining words and phrases, searching their meaning in the dictionary, and learning by multiple repeating. It seems to be a not very exciting job, right? Yes, but it is awesomely useful!

Just writing down new phrases without understanding their meaning won’t be of much use for you. You may not like it at first, but try to step outside the comfort zone and find new topics that encourage your learning and are interesting for you.

Repeat and use what you’ve learned

Do not forget that repeating is the key to memorizing all you’ve learned. Repeat the phrases while commuting to work, waiting in a traffic jam, or at lunchtime. Try to use new words in your everyday conversations with family and friends. Practice is the best way to make this lexicon your everyday habit.
